Stefanie Schuckert

Who am I?

My name is Stefanie Schuckert. I am a 33-year-old woman living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I am a wife and mother of a teenage boy. I am also a proud pet parent, two cats and a dog (all female btw). My working life has been spent in restaurants either cooking or baking. I have spent the last year being a stay at home mom. I chose this path to take more time with the family. Life has become much more important to me then working 9-5 mundane job. I love to host parties, and holiday events. I plan themes, menus, and activities for my guest. My favorite holiday is Halloween. Nothing like the one day a year you can pretend to be anyone you want. The fun dressing up, creating a story, an experience that can last a lifetime. I have been told that talking is my best skill. My great grandmother lives in me forever, for our love of gab is endless. For health reasons the last year I have adapted a vegetarian lifestyle. It has been a life changing experience that has allowed me to focus in on a healthy lifestyle. I also enjoy reading, writing, and exploring different mediums of art.  Loving to live, not living to work.

What are my Qualifications?

·         Baking and Pastry A.S. from The Art Institute Minneapolis

·         Notable places of employment: Cupcake, Minneapolis, Gigi’s CafĂ©, Minneapolis, Catering for Michigan Tech Hockey, Queen of Cakes, Minneapolis.

·         I have managed in fast food, appraised used apparel, and communicated in customer service.

·         I attempted Architectural Drafting at MCTC and Professional Sales at Hennepin Technical College: both didn’t come close to my happy artist inside.

Why am I writing this blog?

No matter what you have done in your life you can always stop, recharge, reconnect with your passion. Time to get back to what I really love, food. I have been able to start gardening, scratch baking, and a slew of other food relate activities. I guess, to be honest here, I am really doing this for myself. My friends and family love to come to me for many things. Emotional support, life guidance, but most of all cooking advice. I can’t even count the times I have been told: I can’t bake, my chicken is so dry, or I wish I had a solid soup recipe. Helping people makes me feel more connected to people. The smells, tastes, stories that surround food are valuable to share with the world. I want to give people the tools to create what I do, as well as having a place to be honest about my processes.

What do I intend to give to the world?

Advice on life through the medium of food. Communicate to men and women alike that there is strength in slowing down. Discover the secrets of a home chef. We as people can connect with all areas of our food. Tips and tricks of home gardening. Creative, simple, fresh recipes that can be made by any level of chef. Party planning, menu creation, fun and game crafts to throw the best shindigs. I want to be open and honest to my readers as I travel this new creative journey.

Will I get anything back?

I hope to find people out there like me, who may understand what its is like trying to find a career not just another job.  I will never claim to know everything, so I hope to get some advice of my own. A chef’s job is never done. There are always opportunities to grow and learn. Meeting people is something I love to do. New stories, faces, jokes, and mysteries. Some people come along to change your life in the most incredible ways. I hope to find that here. I live so far from people now, that is one thing I truly miss about living in the cities. The hustle, bustle, place full of life and culture. Here is about slowing down, enjoying the stars, bonfires, and time. I hope to have the best of both worlds here. I can share my experience of what this new way of life is teaching me as well as stay connected with the world I left behind.

  1. I read similarities between us and it makes me smile. Other than being in the opposite direction, I was a northern child that is now living in Florida, so I understand leaving the hustle and bustle of city life. I just don't have your cooking qualifications, I was taught by my parents to love the kitchen and I treat it as my laboratory and classroom for experiments. Trying my hand at my pastries and baking, so I'm definitely looking for tips and inspiration.
