Thrifty Gadget: Burger Press

I am an avid shopper of thrift stores. From the small mom and pop, to a large Goodwill I find so many fun gadgets for my kitchen. There are always the same items found no matter where I go. Things like pasta machines, fondue sets, and angel food pans. The goods usually show no signs of use or even have unopened packaging. For me, it’s a gold mine of expensive items only costing me just a few dollars.

I have accumulated quite a collection. I thought it would be a good idea to show people what these items are and how they work. Next time you're out thrifting, maybe you will be a little more informed about possible great finds.

How to Use a Burger Press
You read that right folks it’s a burger press. Many folks that have seen it think this is a tortilla press. The thickness between the two plates are too large for pressing tortillas. There is also an adjustable nut that creates varying heights.

I like to make sure that I have wiped down the entire tool with light oil before using. This prevents possible sticking and allows smooth motion when pressing out your patties.
I always prep my burger blend and chill before pressing. This helps the patty keep shape and later the patty with release easily from paper.

Burger Blend Recipe
Ground Beef                            2 pounds
Egg                                          1 each
Bread crumbs, fine ground     ½ cup
Salt & Pepper to taste

Mix together all ingredients, allow to chill one hour.
I always use this recipe because even I mess up with pressing patties the burgers will always hold together while cooking.

Place about ¼ pound of meat in between two pieces of butcher paper. Use the papers glossy side to prevent sticking.

Set desired height and press firmly in between the metal plates. Hold for a few seconds and pop out beautifully pressed burgers.
Prefect and juicy every time.
